UC Irvine has expanded online course options for students to choose a modality that offers more flexibility while still allowing a strong connection to the physical campus during the traditional fall, winter, and spring (FWS) terms. The measured approach has increased the percentage of students (i.e., access) while maintaining the stability of the percentage of all units (i.e., connection to campus). Summer terms provide more flexibility for students to ensure timely progression toward earning their degrees, whether on campus or remotely.

UC Irvine continues to be a top choice for many students. The total number of undergraduate applications to UC Irvine has increased from just over 82,000 for Fall 2014 to almost 150,000 for Fall 2025. In addition, results from the biennial Graduating Student Survey indicate an increasing percentage of students who would choose UC Irvine as their top choice since 2015 if they were to choose again.
